In addition to its extensive work in civic center live television, such as for San Francisco City Hall, Los Angeles City Hall and many other civic centers, as well as for the sports facilities such as HP Pavilion and others, SFMI provides a wide range of audio, video, technical grounding and acoustical design services to the video editing and television production industries. Sample project experiences include:

  • Hollywood Digital, Los Angeles, California
  • At the time of its opening, the most advanced television post-production facility in the world. All video and audio signals are handled in Digital format. Facility includes seven on-line edit bays, three telecines, two graphics suites, two audio pre-lay control rooms, one Foley and two audio post-mix suites. Each room contains Dolby (TM) surround monitoring. 

    Project was built as a retrofit to an existing office building. Project was designed, constructed, commissioned and in operation within 8 months. Completed in 1993.

    Scope of Services: Room Acoustics, HVAC noise control, Sound Isolation, Audio signal system concept, and general facility concept collaboration.

  • City of Los Angeles Teleproduction Center, Los Angeles, California
  • Design of a new 13,000 sf government access origination facility for video production system for the City of Los Angeles, used as input to the City cable franchises, including production studios, editing suites, staff and technical support facilities, technical support archive, dressing and conference rooms and a multi-channel, air release switching center and is designed for on-site as well as off-site productions.

    As part of a study for building new on-air announce studios for ABC television affiliate; SFMI performed studies of the potential impact of the peak noise and ground plane vibration produced by the adjacent Coal Train and Highway. SFMI further provided mitigation criteria for isolating the studio from this impact.
