Film Soundstage Project Experience

Smith, Fause & McDonald, Inc.

Cary Grant Theatre, Sony Pictures Studios, Culver City, California

Largest Dubbing Stage, Screening Room on the Sony Picture Studios Lot (formerly MGM). Originally built around 1929, the theatre has been in continuous use as a premier cinema sound mixing facility. Products produced in this room have won Academy Awards for Best Sound, for the last six decades. The acoustics of the room are the de facto reference standard for dubbing stages world wide. SFMI was retained to oversee that the architectural renovation changes in 1992, including seat replacements, reconditioning and replacement of all visible surface finish, do not affect the superb acoustics of the room.

Scope of Services: Room Acoustics, HVAC noise control and Sound Isolation during 1992 renovation. Final Acoustical testing that demonstrated that the existing revered acoustics of the room was not affected by the renovation.

Client: Sony Studios, Culver City, California
