SFMI Projects for BPL Include:
Berkeley Central Library Revovation.
Renovation and expansion of historic 50,000 square foot urban library facility to 100,000 square foot library and library adminstration facility. SFMI scope of services included:
- the design of building wide voice data structured cabling systems including four IDF's, Server Room/MDF
and MPOE with fiber and copper backbone facilites.
- new networked PBX systems transparently linking the main library to the four branches and the rest of the
City of Berkeley through the City of Berkeley PBX Systems.
- Audio-visual systems design for the Historic Reading Room, Public Meeting Room and Classroom
- Assistance in the selection of a Thin Client computer terminal for the On-Line Public Access Catalog
System, Service Desks, Public Internet and E-mail stations. Specification of data systems hardware
- Building wide public address systems
Temporary Central Library and Temporary Central Administration Temporary facilities occupied by the
Library during renovation of the Central Library.

- Interim main and branch library routers, Ethernet hubs and Terminal Servers.
- Interim DSL Internet facilities, E-mail systems review and firewall.

- Two phase expansion of data cabling systems at existing branches to accomodate additional workstations and implement a Gates Foundation Library Systems grant.
- Branch telephone systems and data networks as part of the larger Main Library design work.
