Measurements were conducted of multiple system operation modes and at two community receptor locations. Measurements were taken of each in dBA (overall), as well as 1/3 octave and narrow band spectrums.  Provision of recommendations for mitigation of impact to comply with City of Sacramento standards.

West County Resource Recovery

Mitigation of construction and operation noise for a waste recycling facility serving 80 residential and two dozen commercial haul trucks.  Site is adjacent to a residential neighborhood.  During design phase SFMI surveyed similar operations at other facilities, and conducted on-site mockup of trucking operations and provided design mitigation measures.  SFMI also performed pre-construction ambient survey, noise compliance survey during construction phase as well as post completion operations noise compliance survey.

Community noise assessment of 45 year old saw mill now surrounded by residences. 14 hour simultaneous survey of 5 community points. Sources included debarking machines, ripping saw, planers, log loaders, highway log trucks, forklifts, water trucks, pumps, dust collector fans. Analysis conducted according to multiple noise standards.   Individual spectral measurement of specific yard vehicles identified several modes of operation as the principal contributors to excessive noise emissions.  SFMI's recommendations led to retirement of vehicles too old to repair.

To mitigate the existing noise impact of 280 bus/truck maintenance and repair yard, operating 24 hours a day, and to further allow it to double its operational size; SFMI performed measurements and  engineered mitigation measures acceptable to the City of El Monte Planning Commission.
