Project Description
SFMI serves as the telecommunications engineer to this 8,000 student school district including the communities of San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Los Osos.
The scope of services includes design of Data and Video Cabling, Video Distribution Systems, Campus Local Area Network Systems, Interim Wide Area Networks,
District Technology Center, LAN directory services for more than 3,000 Computer Workstations at 18 school sites, Boardroom Audio Visual Presentation Systems, Districtwide Telephone Network and Library
Automation System for districtwide use and Library Union Catalog.
Our scope of services also includes the design of a Unified Metropolitan Area Network which is intended to maximize District's connectivity options
while minimizing on-going communications operating costs.
The design for UMAN is based on dark fiber network which in addition to serving District's 20 sites, will also deliver wideband communications access to
facilities operated by the County of San Luis Obispo, the County Office of Education, California Polytechnical State University at San Luis Obispo, the California Men's Colony, the California Department of Parks,
and the California National Guard. The project will serve a total of 54 sites spanning more than 50 miles. Project cost is approximately 2.5 million dollars. Construction is over 90% complete.
UMAN is a novel multi-agency effort based on SFMI's pioneering work to leverage provisions of the Cable Act of 1996 to bring cost efficient Metropolitan Area
Network services to the government sector.
