Districtwide Structured Cabling, Networked Telephones and Fiber MAN Interface

Design of new infra-structure at nine existing school sites to accommodate district-wide telephone and data communications. Incremental implementation
of new educational technology systems, including campus local area networks, video distribution systems and wide area networking.
Phase I: Design included underground and rooftop outside plant combined with interior cable trays and surface raceway to provide flexible pathways for
fiber optic, twisted copper and coax cabling.
Phase II: Design included interior placement of Category 5 cabling to four receptacles located in public areas, offices and conference
spaces. Outside plant distribution utilized a combination of multi-mode and single-mode fiber, supplemented by gel filled voice cabling.
Phase III: Design consisted of implementing a District-wide distributed telephone system with a central PBX and voice mail placed at the High School,
and Satellite PBXs placed at each of the other sites. Four digit dialing, call transfer, conferencing and group voice mail sends are enabled by the system. Each site has a personalized auto attendant and
parents have access to their children's homework. Designed system allows the 911 operator to identify the site as well as the particular classroom where emergency services are needed. Forced call
accounting supplemented by artificial intelligence denies access to unauthorized people.
Phase IV: Conducted in parallel with Phase III, this phase involved negotiating a fiber optic trunking system to connect the sites together in
District-wide Metropolitan Area Network. SFMI's efforts allowed the district to deliver 100% of their intra-district voice, data and video needs without using leased line services and at data speed
rates far in excess of those available from telephone companies.
