About SFMI

Smith, Fause & McDonald, Inc.

History

Smith, Fause & McDonald, Inc. was founded in San Francisco in 1986 to provide engineering services in the areas of acoustics and audiovisual systems. Core clientele were institutional and public sector clients involved in the construction or renovation of multiple use and complex facilities, including schools, universities, city halls, convention centers and similar public uses. SFMI developed a reputation for its ability to execute complex designs on time and on budget.

With the emergence of widespread interest by our core clientele in integration of communications engineering into the building fabric, SFMI began to formally offer communications engineering services in 1991. The demand for communications engineering has spread to encompass not only those building types that SFMI had historically served but additionally entire university and school campuses, office buildings, and metropolitan scale communications infrastructure.

Principal and founder Peter McDonald was a principal in the firm of Smith, Fause & Associates (SFAI) of Los Angeles prior to forming Smith, Fause & McDonald, Inc. SFAI principally provided services in the acoustical and audiovisual systems areas, beginning in 1980 through 1999. Cross-ownership existed between SFMI and SFAI until 1998. SFAI ceased operations in 1999..
